Resume Help

There are several types of resumes used to apply for job openings.   Depending on your personal circumstances, you might choose a chronological, a functional, a combination, or a targeted resume.

Your resume should stand out.  Employers might receive hundreds of resumes for a single position. You must show how qualified you are by describing your qualifications for the desired job in a concise, clear, and attention-getting manner.  Here are a few tips:

Use action words to describe your experience and accomplishments.  Include numbers, percentages, or dollar amounts in your job descriptions to back up your achievements.  This approach immediately highlights the kind of impact you've made.   Watch the length of your resume.   Keep it to one page if at all possible; cut it down to the most relevant and impressive items.  You should be sure to tailor your resume to match the job description, so cut and paste accordingly.

It is well worth the initial expense to purchase a book or two on resume-writing.  You will use them again and again, and an outstanding resume is your first step toward that “perfect” job you are looking for.
